garageband

I had garageband on my previous versions of my comp. I had to erase and reload my operating system according to the apple store. I did this. garageband was no longer in my system but version 6 showed up in my purchases. I downloaded it. but it looks like they automatically also decided to upgrade it and possible charged me for it. I didn't want to update it to the new version. I simply wanted to redownload my old version. I get that they're trying to make people pay for updates now, but I wasn't trying to update. Is there a way to still use my old version without having to pay for the update?
