How to write text on a photo

I use Imovie 10.0.8 to do a slide shows.

But, I would like to put a short text in some of the photos

I use OS X YOSEMITE in my Mac Book

I have Photo 1.0 and Keynote 6.5.3

Is it possible combining my applications, or have I to purchase another one?

Thank you to help me

MacBook, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Photos does not support graphics compositing, but you can easily write text onto photos in Apple's Preview.app, that comes with every Mac.

Export your photo to the Desktop with File > Export, and then open it in Preview.

You can use several fonts and text sizes or draw the text onto the photo.
