Auto mute iPhone ?

Is it possible to set up the Apple watch / iPhone so that the paired iPhone auto mutes ringtones / text tones etc when the watch is being worn, but to returns to audio ringtones / text tones once the watch is removed from the wrist ?

Whilst wearing the watch I prefer my attention to be drawn by haptics and the iPhone remain silent, but once the watch is removed I would like the iPhone to automatically remove itself from silent mode.

Is this currently possible, if so how ?

if not currently possible, could this feature be implemented in future software releases ?

thank you.

For everything EXCEPT phone calls, that is the way the system between the Watch and iPhone is supposed to work. If you are wearing the Watch and your iPhone is sleeping/locked, everything goes to the Watch. When you remove the Watch and allow it to lock, everything (aside from Alarms on the Watch) goes to the iPhone. The one exception is supposed to be phone calls - though I will occasionally get iMessages that ring on both.

For me, as long as the phone is paired to the watch, I don't get alerts on the phone. This includes my watch being off my wrist, locked, and charging. No text sounds on the phone. This caused me a significant problem for the first few days, before I figured out why I wasn't getting the alerts overnight. I have learned that I have to put the watch in airplane mode to get my on-call alerts on the phone. I don't notice them on the watch either, since my preference is haptics only.

If the watch is really supposed to work that way (when off your wrist it goes to phone) then mine is not working right. Another thread suggested that the suppression of all alerts on iphone is the expected behavior whenever the watch and phone are connected. I'm not sure which is right. Can anyone verify that their phone still gets alerts when the watch is off the wrist but connected? I'd love to know what others are experiencing in this regard.
