Not surprising since your photos are not in the iPhotos folder. They are in your Users/Documents/Pictures folder as the iPhoto Library file, which is actually a folder.

May 19, 2015 6:10 AM in response to Lannyby tbegley,I have deleted them from pictures as well. i can't locate any duplicates anywhere and the hard drive shows 120gb of "other" which was photos but changed after i deleted the folder iPhoto.

as I stated

try rebooting your Mac - the display you are looking at is not a great way to find space - there is a program called Grand Perspective that can be very helpful
