hi niel, thanks for trying to help me out. when i follow the instructions, it says i can't update to 7.0 ?? is there anyway to overcome that?
Not on your device; the instructions are meant to check if there's a version compatible with iOS 6.1.6 available, but the current one needs to be downloaded on a computer or newer device first.

ok so how do i download the newer version on to my laptop? i have my ipod plugged into my laptop and itunes and that's the message i'm getting.
i'm hearing you say i need to get the 7.0 version onto my laptop right?

No. You're not downloading iOS, you're downloading the app you want. See https://sites.google.com/site/appleclubfhs/support/advice-and-articles/app-store -downloading-older-versions-of-apps-ios, particularly the workaround section, for more details. The Apple article that Niel linked to in his first post assumes that you already own the app that is incompatible.
hi fan, you guys have totally lost me with your answers. i'm so illiterate with devices. i went to the app store on my laptop to try to download words with friends but i couldn't find it.
the workaround session doesn't make sense to me. can you give much more simple instructions?

On your computer, click here, then View in iTunes, and download that application. Go to the iPod touch and try downloading it from there.
