Out of memory error FCP 7

Quite often "out of memory" errors don't involve memory at all - they involve the use of noncompliant material, e.g. CMYK or Grayscale colorspace for still images and some wonky non I frame video codec e.g. Mpeg 4, H.264, or whatever

The way to fix this is to make sure that ALL still images are in the RGB colorspace and your video is either ProRes, DV or HDV - with ProRes being the preferred format.

I am having the exact same problem.

I am running a late 2011 Macbook Pro.

I have been trying to render an old project in Final Cut Pro 7 and every time I tried it said "you don't have the right codec". I checked for updates for the system and found one for video formats. Downloaded and didn't work. Funny thing is they have been releasing new updates every day since i started having the problem so I am guessing they are trying to fix it and I am not the only one having this problem.

After the last update the message in fcp 7 changed to "out of memory" but I have enough memory. Tried changing the codec to ProRes 422 but didn't work neither.

Some of the videos previews in Quicktime don't work either.

Anybody has any suggestion on how to fix this problem for FCP 7 to be able to render my projects?

What codec (or compressor) is your source material?

Some of the Apple ProRes 422 (log and transfer from Canon XF100) and some of them H.264 (copied from Canon 7D).

h264 IS NOT an acceptable format for editing in fcp. It may work for a while but eventually things will go south as you've discovered. Convert all the h264 material to prores using compressor. You may be able to use the media manager within fcp to do the conversion. Sometimes works.

Nothing except converting the files will work dependably. Try Media Manager. You can just convert the files and sections of files used in your sequence. If you need help with the workflow, post back.

Make your sequence active and go to file: Media Manager and setup appropriately. Make sure the target setting matches your pixel dimensions and frame rate. I don't think Media Manager will work with material whose frame rate doesn't match your sequence frame rate. Post back with any questions
