Q: problems with Multiport AV adapter

Gang,

I just got the Multiport AV adapter and I cannot get any USB3 hard drives to work with it.

I have the simpler USBC->USB SS adapter from Apple and others and that works, but not the AV adapter.

I could get audio devices to work fine?

Also does anyone know what the deal is with the downstream USBC port? Is that only for power (i.e the USB3 and Video are stripped from the connector)?

Thanks,

Gordon

    Gordon,

Thanks for your efforts, but if you give it some time, and I can't tell you how much, your MacBook will began failing to recognize the USB 3.0 devices. Chances are you had to restart your laptop after the upgrade to v. 2.33, and that is usually what happens, it works for a while but the problem will surface later on.

This problem has become a headache for me because I have to get rid of all my USB 3.0 drives that I was using and find some old USB 2.0

Is not a fatal problem but it makes the MacBook 12 a computer less advanced that what it is suppose to be.

Please don't put this aside, do some more testing when you have a few moments to spare.

I was hoping that someone like you could make the Apple people look into this problem.

    Thanks, again,

    Nelson

    Gordon,

A couple of things I wanted to tell you.

I'm sure the problem is with the OS, and it all started after i did the MAVA upgrade to v.2.33.

The most recent El Capitan upgrade to 10.11.6 must've made some changes because my MacBook is recognizing the USB 3.0 devices for a longer time after a restart, and some times after an overnight sleep, but eventually it fails.

I never thought the problem was the MAVA or the USB-C to USB cable, but what ever went into my hard drive after the upgrade.

I'm going to wait for a few more weeks to see if something happens, and then I will forget the MacBook 12 and buy a new MacBook Air, I need a laptop that is dependable, not one that works at random

There is bunch of people out there having exactly the same problem as I do, Apple can't ignore what's happening. I wish there was a way to undue the v. 2.33 upgrade, that would solve the whole problem.

    Thanks,

    Nelson.

    Hi Gordon,

It has been a while - sorry.  Had my head down for a sprint and no real hickups, so no reason to come and check things here until today.

First: did you get your external HD and HDMI video working from the MAVA?  I use standard cables:

    • USBC: white power cable from Apple - goes to power adapter
    • HDMI: Amazon basics cable to DELL screen
    • USBA: Amazon basics to USB3 hub in DELL screen.
      Connected to hub
      • Seagate 1TB HD runs of the USB3 hub and has been behaving better than usual.
      • Apple full keyboard.

What is the result of your tests?  Any enlightening findings?

Today my Bluetooth acted up (not related to MAVA I think) but it used to happen frequently since I started having battery problems back in March.  It started behaving better after an OS update some time in July.  This is the first incident since then.

    Actions taken to fix issue:

    1. Turning mouse off / on did not help (usually works)
    2. Turning bluetooth off / on did not help (usually works if 1. does not work)
    3. Reset system.  All is back to normal.

I will also post this in a BT thread.
