Mac mini (mid-2014) not working with TP Link range extender

My mac mini (late-2014)'s wifi works great next to the router but when I put it in the other room (where it won't get a signal) with a TP Link N300 Range Extender (Mod Num: TL-WA854RE), it won't connect. Do some range extenders not work with the mac mini (late-2014)? The range extender works with my other devices. Right now I have it hard wired via a client and that works great. But because I can't connect to the wifi I can't use handoff and other stuff that requires a wifi signal. Thanks in advance.
