Does anyone else HATE the new Photos "upgrade"?

Sure, and your use of the app is entirely good for you. But as your suggestion has knock on consequences, you need to make them clear too.

Also, I suspect the poster you're replying to is referring to how the images are displayed in the app's window, not to file management.

I can not even tweak my photos so that they can be printed on my Canon Printer.Is there any way to get my old iPhoto 7 back??Anyway?

And are there are programs that will allow me to use it like a "darkroom".The IOS 7 program did the job just great,just great but this new on in Yosemite is simply horrible.

Yyou are confusing iOS and OSX. But you can erase your drive and reinstall the backup you made prior to upgrading. As for your second question, I like Lightroom by Adobe, but there are many others if you search.

I agree - why can't the photos just be in a folder. It seems like I have to beg Apple access to my own **** photos! Maddening!

You're photos can be just in a folder. If you want that, why are you using Photos? Why not just use folders? It's not compulsory you know.

I've always had my photos in a folder in my Documents folder. Many subfolders (such as beachtrip 2015, Xmas,etc) to organize them. Simple to drag the folder to an external drive for an extra backup - no library to update or whatever.

Well, I've used Photos (to try its' edit capabilities) without using its' library - the same way I use Aperture: I import the photo, edit it, and export it. Then I put everything in Photos/Aperture in the trash and empty it. The edited/exported version is filed in its proper place, sometimes along with the original or replacing it.

It's semantics I know, but that is using the Library. You need to import first then export after, everything happens in the Library. Like Aperture and iPhoto (and other apps with non-destructive processing like LIghtroom) It simply cannot operate on an photo that is not in the Library.

Okay, but - at the end of the day (or when I'm done editing, exporting, and emptying the trash), there is nothing in the library......

I'm not too thrilled about it either however, the more time I spend with it the better it gets. I had gotten used to Aperture and Photos seemed like a real mess at first. Making photo books in Aperture gave more control over labeling pictures in the books. For example, I could assign a text field to each and every picture if I so desired. In Photos I can only assign one line of text at the bottom of the page. If there is indeed a way to do this now in Photos the feature has become too obscure to find. I hope they improve the program as time goes on.
