Q: Does anyone else HATE the new Photos "upgrade"?

Photos has made a huge MESS of my pictures & I literally want to scream.  It changed the dates on a lot of my pictures and now I can't even find the new ones after I upload them.  I don't have time to sit at my computer and work out Apples bugs.  ARRGHHHH!!!!!   Anyone have a good non-Apple program that they have switched to?  I am SO ready...

MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.53 GHz), iOS 8.3

    You must work for Apple!

I have a Mac because it was supposed to make my work faster and easier, not because it is my recreation or hobby. The Photo software does neither - in fact it doesn't even import photos properly, which is why it irritates me.

The installation was not something I asked for and now it runs as a default programme. I have found ways to avoid it and stop the chaos it caused but that took quite a few hours and a lot of hassle.

Not quite sure why you are so determined to insist that there is nothing wrong with it? There seem to be a lot of others, just as fallible as me, who are struggling as well.

Photos works fine for me, you must be doing something wrong

You asked for the install when you selected it from the app store, you may not have bothered to read what the update contained but that is your doing, take responsibility for it

Photos is additional to iPhoto, not a replacement for it. You still have it and can still use it, you probably neglected to read that when you neglected to read anything about the update earlier

There are very few like you out of the millions that are successfully using it, again, what did you do wrong.

I am sure there are lots of things I do wrong :-) However software like this is supposed to make life simpler not balls-up a perfectly good Mac and perfectly satisfactory existing software.

What the photo app actually did was move 2 iphoto libraries onto different hard drives (and the apple support staff were as puzzled about this as I was, so on that occasion it wasn't something I had done - it took an afternoon to locate them and unscramble them which was tedious in the least).

I would love to think that in the photo app small print there was something that said it would lump photos impossibly into date order, wouldn't use events, couldn't find new photos off standard memory cards and would tamper with existing software making it much less use-friendly...If there was, I would certainly not have uploaded it. I certainly DIDN'T select it from the app store as I was quite happy with what I had before.

Good for you for being so competent and always doing exactly what Apple tell you to - it must be very satisfying :-)

It's millions of people, not just me, the odd one out here is you, don't try to fool me.

Why don't you just continue to use iPhoto if you dislike Photos, theres an easy option for you.

Isn't it nice that I'm not as picky about your punctuation and grammar as you are about my tech skills?! :-)

What makes you think I care about your grammar critique or your tech skills. If you can't figure Photos out use iPhoto.

I know how you feel. I don't even know exactly how many photos I have.  (over 20,000).  About half are turned to the right, left or upside down. It's like they have been thrown into a big box all mixed up. I AM EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED. I have no idea how or where to start to organize this mess.

You can continue to use iPhoto if Photos is not to your liking.

iPhoto is on your Mac, in the applications folder. And there is no need to shout, especially when the information you're shouting is incorrect.

Photos is the future and relics like iPhoto and Aperture are dead.

    Why?

Look at where Photos support is located with Apple. under System Software...not iLife or even as a separate app. Photos are now as ubiquitous in communication as text or fonts. For them to be efficient o Mac or iOS they need to be system-level integrated using core software (as with Metal and Swift).

The whole concept of a photo app "sitting" on top of an OS is 1980s tech and Apple is phasing it out. With photos on multiple devices the whole structure of photos on a "drive" and organized into "folders" is antithetical to good software design.

Yes, Photos as it starts out has glitches. no doubt. I am working right now with an Apple engineer to sort one out. But the concept is sound because the sheer number of photos in multiple places MUST change the way the OS (any OS) works. Period.

What does that have to do with the fact that iPhoto is still available for use after you upgrade to 10.10.3. If you don't like the way Photos works then you don't have to use it.

I think part of the confusion is that we all see the writing on the wall.

I suspect after El Capitan the next major MacOS will not run iPhoto very well at all, and perhaps eliminate some of the functionality like email and phonebooks, etc. This will compel people to migrate out of their comfort zones.

We've all been there (AppleWorks, Wordperfect and many, many others).

Standalone media apps like iPhoto are dinosaurs in the multi-device, constant media availability paradigm.

I deleted IPhoto before I downloade "Photo". Now, I don't know where to get IPhoto back or even what to do

You may be right, or not, only time will tell that but for now there is a simple solution to the dilemma of not liking Photos. Use iPhoto. The future will bring what it brings, I try not to worry about what has not happened.
