Q: Does anyone else HATE the new Photos "upgrade"?

Photos has made a huge MESS of my pictures & I literally want to scream.  It changed the dates on a lot of my pictures and now I can't even find the new ones after I upload them.  I don't have time to sit at my computer and work out Apples bugs.  ARRGHHHH!!!!!   Anyone have a good non-Apple program that they have switched to?  I am SO ready...

MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.53 GHz), iOS 8.3

I do not see a place to delete photos from my device after loading them into Photo. I cannot sent photos using my mail app from Photo. Overall, I am displeased with the "upgrade" to Photo. This is not an app for professionals to use either. If I just want a place to store a bunch of photos, I can put them in a folder; don't need an app to do that. Very very frustrated with this addition. I have been a mac user since 1984 and love my macs but don't much like this "update."

Check your settings.  If you enabled iCloud Photo Library on your device, you cannot delete photos from the device after importing them to your computer.  And there would be no need to do so, since the photos will be in iCloud and only mirrored on the device.

Photos works fine with Apple's  Mail.app.  Use a mail client, that has been updated to work with Photos.

It isn't an update - it is a new app, that comes for free with Yosemite. It is not compulsory to use it. Ignore it, if you don't like it.

Some people say: "If you don't like Photo go back to IPhoto". Well, I did this and my IPhoto is not like before I replaced it with Photo. Many pictures are rotated and in the wrong place. I would suggest to NOT use Photo NEVER because it will just screw everything up.

Why did you not just restore your backup, then things would be as they were?

BECAUSE I DID NOT KNOW HOW. IT'S THAT SIMPLE........

So, you did not know how to backup and you did not think to ask. Instead you chose not to bother protecting your pictures. Not much can be done about that now.

Are you still not bothering to backup?

I have a 1 TB backup but like I said: I don't know how to use so I did not know I could even use it. I was told to back up and I did and that's it.

To use it you just have to turn Time Machine on, one switch is all it takes (assuming you plugged the drive in)

There is no excuse for having no backup, it was your choice, consider the wisdom of that choice for the future.

I posted this on another thread:

I first import photos (eg. from a camera) into a folder of my own choice. I then import into Photos. In Preferences the option to copy items to the Photos library is unchecked. This is my way of avoiding files being scrabbled and inaccessible.

The scrambling of data was why I never used iPhoto, preferring Picasa. When I moved to Aperture the problem disappeared.

    Some thoughts:

    1. You cannot used iCloud Photo Library with images that are referenced - that is imported with the 'option to copy items... unchecked'

    2. Your files were never 'scrabbled'(?) with iPhoto. It was quite possible to use the same setting with it too, as it is with Aperture. Even if you did let it copy the files into he Library they were still perfectly accessible, just too a few seconds learning to see how.

For more on iPhoto and file management see this User Tip:

About 95% of this is still true for Photos too.

I recognise there is a downside to referenced files like, e.g., iCloud. I wouldn't have used iCloud as it would mean buying space from Apple. In 2008 I was using Bonusprint for photobooks and I could find no way of accessing the files from the iPhoto library. Hence Picasa.

I had decided to give Photos a go until I started a new photobook to find that the we are now restricted to templates so cannot add things like dates and titles to individual photos or pages. In Aperture with Yosemite templates have been restricted- it seems no more double spreads - but I have found a time-consuming workaround. I am hoping OS 10.11 will bring some improved functionality to Photos.

Sure, and your use of the app is entirely good for you. But as your suggestion has knock on consequences, you need to make them clear too.

Also, I suspect the poster you're replying to is referring to how the images are displayed in the app's window, not to file management.
