Have yo went to Sony's support site?
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod and dock for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

May 20, 2015 11:40 AM in response to lllaassby cweinbl,Thanks, Illaas. It works sometimes for a minute or so and the iPod goes into pause mode. When I press play, it plays, but only through the iPod's speakers - not the home theater system. Yes, I checked each connection pin. Nothing broken or bent. I did a reset on the iPod. Still no joy. I did a complete reset (erase the iPod) and then restore. Same result. Sony has nothing useful to say. I've perused through their web sites and spent hours on the phone. I also rebooted my home theater system. Incompatibility between the iPod and the Sony dock comes to mind. But then why would it play perfectly through the Sony for several months and then suddenly stop?

Sometimes an iOS update breaks compatibility.

May 20, 2015 12:55 PM in response to lllaassby cweinbl,I did a complete reset (erased the HD, loaded the operating system and restored my files). Same thing. I can sometimes get it to play through the Sony dock for a minute and then the iPod goes from play to pause by itself.
