It really does leave a bit of a sour taste as far as Canon Support is concerned though. They didn't even suggest trying a more up to date driver, albeit not for Yosemite, they said categorically my MP600R would not work. Could it possibly be it was influenced by suggested purchase of up to date model with same facilities at cost of £150?
The trouble is that you may not be talking to Canon, but an outsourced company acting as the first level support on Canon's behalf - this is what happens in Australia. These support people are okay on Windows but OS X is an unknown to many of them and their knowledge is based on what they read off the same web site that you are looking at. So if that web site does not mention support for Yosemite, then they don't know that you can use the driver written for Mavericks or Mountain Lion on the new OS.

Another question has been prompted, although Printer now fine, Scanner not working. MP Navigator won't even open, either from Dock or from Printers & Drivers in System Preferences. Don't know if ok after Yosemite install as I was only trying to get Printer working.
Just an FYI - MP Navigator is not opened via the Scan button that can appear in Printers & Scanners. That Scan button is provided via the ICA scanner driver, which also lets you scan using Image Capture - an application included with OS X. The ICA driver for the MP600R is no longer available so you will have to rely on using MP Navigator to scan.
So the last version of MP Navigator that Canon released was v3.0.5 and was for OS X 10.8. Here's a link. I expect that the version you currently have installed is earlier than this version so delete it from Applications and then install this version. Note that to use MP Navigator you will also need to install the MP600R Scanner Driver, that also was last written for OS X 10.8 but should still install and function on 10.10.
