JDiskReport or Similar Tool for Yosemite.

Hello,

I really like JDiskReport. It is an older tool, but it is free and gets the job done by helping me identify larger unneeded files on my hard drive. However, it is taking an unusually long time to scan my small 250GB hard drive. It's on 13:10 hours and still not completed and this is an SSD.

Do I need to backup the data, reformat the SSD and reimage the drive? What is causing JDiskReport to take so long? I suppose it could be it is just a very old tool and was not developed for this version of OS X.

Any help much appreciated.

MacBook Pro (17-inch Early 2009), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), Model #MB604LL/A

It should not take hours to complete, especially on an SSD.

Try OmniDiskSweeper. It is also good at identifying where you storage is going. Just stay away from deleting files outside of your home directory and files in your home->Library, and if you think there is something outside of your home directory or in your home -> Library, ask first before deleting.

If you get similar slow performance from OmniDiskSweeper, then you should start looking at booting from the Recover partition and running Disk Utility -> Repair. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A CURRENT BACKUP FIRST! Because if you have reached the stage of worrying about the correctness of your storage, you should be worried about your data first.
