Q: How to have Photos automatically import edits from my iPhone?

I used to use iPhoto and older versions of iOS happily:

  1. Take a photo on iPhone
  2. Add filters and make edits the built-in tools
  3. Import into iPhoto — edited and original automatically imported

With Apple's new Photos.app and iOS 8, things aren't so good anymore.

The edits (saved in .aae files) are not imported by Photos.app automatically.

Therefore, any edits you made on your iPhone are lost when importing.

Is there an easy way around this?

To ensure that the .aae files are imported and read by Photos.app on the Mac?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.3

    Thanks for your suggestion.

I tried it, and it's asking me to pay $60 a year for the priveledge.

Like most other people, I have more than 5GB of photos.

I'd like to do this for free — with the USB cable, like it used to work in iPhoto and the old iOS. I already paid $800 for a phone and $2000 for a laptop.

    Any suggestions?

No because there is no other simple way - you can email the edited photos to you self - you can add the to MyPhotoStream after editing

but the only real and clean solution to your wish is iCloud Photo Library - you can choose to do what you want or choose not to - the option is there is you want it

I've read around the forums that apparently Photos.app should not be behaving like this.

A lot of people (with a high level on these forums) were saying that it will be able to read .aae files unlike iPhoto.

    Seems that's not the case?

Is it the same for you?
