Launching of safari results in audio from unknown source. Need a tip on how to locate and terminate source. Only known solution is to mute from the keyboard. Any help would be appreciated.

I have this problem also. I load safari and get a cash register ding even without loading a webpage. I will also get the ding when I return to safari after working in a different app.
Do not know why this worked, but I went to private browsing, exited, restarted my computer, and they annoying audio was gone. I never use private browsing so have no clue why it worked.
This didn't work for me. I still get the ding when I start up Safari.
I solved the problem on my computer. It was the GMail counter plug-in. I discovered that because I have two MBP's. Only one of them ding'd using Safari.
