Q: Mail I delete from Junk returns to my inbox.

iMac

Yosemite 10.10.3

Mail 8.2 (2098)

Mail I delete from Junk returns to my inbox. And activity indicates 27 incoming mail.

I Delete mail from "Junk" folder, it goes to "Trash" folder. I go back to "Junk" folder, the spam emails are back in the "Junk" folder AND are back in my main account folder.

This just started today.

I have quit Mail several times - no help.

I have restarted - no help.

Any ideas what I should do?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), Late 2009/3.06GHZ/8GBRAM/500GB/9400M

I went to Mail preferences, changed some mailbox behaviors, I did NOT save the mailbox behaviors I changed, then I went back to my inbox and deleted the spam.to trash. I emptied Trash, and none of the deleted spam has returned.

So, I do not know exactly what I did, but the problem has been resolved... so far.

    Nope... this did not work/

I read new mail in my inbox.

I delete the mail I just read by selecting the trash can.

The email is now gone from my inbox.

I go to Trash, and the just-deleted email is not listed in the Trash.

I return to my inbox, and the email I tried to delete is there, albeit marked as read.

I repeat the process beginning with deleting the email in my inbox.

After repeatoing this process 4 or 5 times, the email I want to delete is finally gone from my inbox, gone from Trash, gone from Junk.

I then quit Mail... or try to. I have to force quit mail.

Try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

    Reindex messages

I am now very worried. What do I do to get everything back?

Today I sent two emails to the same person. The first email was sent, appears in the Sent folder, and also appears in the Draft folder.

The second email appeared in the Sent folder immediately after I sent it. Then, the Draft folder showed 2 drafts in the folder, and when I opened the Draft folder, there was only the first email in the folder.

I then quit Mail, re-opened Mail, and the Draft folder showed 2 drafts in the folder, but only one appeared in the folder.

By the way, after I deleted the /Envelope Index/ and the /Envelope Index-wal/ files from my ~Library/Mail/V2/MailData folder, I was unable to access Mail Preferences as per my above post. I restarted my iMac, and fortunately Mail came back to a place where I can use it.
