according to apple, ATI 5770/5870 , Nvida 8800Gt, Nvida GT 120, Quadro FX 4000/5600 do. I suppose the evga GTX 680 might or the sapphiretech 7950 could but I'm not 100% sure on that

it's a start anyways. There's also the D300 and D500 series but those are for the 2013 mac pro and are not sold seperately, so they don't really count

That PC card will work in your Mac with 10.8.3 or later. However, there will nothing displayed on the monitor until the drivers are loaded since the card is not flashed for a Mac

I have a 2009 Mac Pro with the original GT 120 card and a PC 5770 card.

Most card require an AUX power connector. The Mac has two plugs for such power and you will need a Mac compatible cable.

Those are not options, and not current state of GPUs for a 3,1

Flashed GTX and AMDs, Mac Editions of GTX EVGA 680 (out of stock and not beiing sold it seems)

Nvidia PC cards - what you need to know:

AMD PC cards:

* D300 etc are ONLY used and come built in with the 6,1 and not available (maybe if someone stripped out a 6,1 and you have the Late 2013)

So I read a bit and it still seems confusing what with different OS's using different drivers (web vs OS?). Still not anywhere closer and I've posted on the macrumors forum. And beyond OpenCL - I know GPU RAM for gaming i sonly important depending on how massive the texture files are but does it matter for video editing? If that's the case are there non gamer cards that have lots of RAM that are good for video editing?

Thanks!
