Cannot get OS X Yosemite to download

Using OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 on a late 2008 MacBook Pro with 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor and 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Memory. 271.83 GB free of 499.25 GB on hard drive.

Following Apple Support instructions for creating a bootable installer for OS X Yosemite on my 16GB Verbatim Store'n'Go V3 USB Drive. Clicked on CONTINUE button to download the whole of Yosemite 10.10.3, however I cannot get Yosemite to download. The App Store just spins and spins for hours.
