When I try to update my Apple Watch, I get stuck at "Checking for Update" and spindizzy that never ends. I have the Watch charging. I've 'kill' the iPhone watch app and tried again--no luck. I've powered off my iPhone and turning it back on--no luck. Anybody else having this problem? iPhone 6 iOS 8.4 12D4098c

I had the same issue and what was the reason for the infinite loop of trying to download was because my iPhone was not connected to WIFI. As soon as I connected iPhone to WIFI the software update downloaded. You will need to have your watch charger too, as the update requires watch to be plugged into power.

I had this issue. Rebooting did not help.
Then I scrolled down and noticed some watch apps were updating. I waited for that to complete and it was able to update.

Force closed Apple watch app, rebooted phone, not sure what else to try!

A reboot of both devices sorted this for me as well.
Rebooted iPhone and watch at the same time fixed it! Downloading now!
You need to restart the watch as well. Force it to do so by holding both the Digital Crown and the Side Button simultaneously for 10 seconds. It should go black and you can let go. The apple logo will appear and you can wait for it to turn back on. Might as well turn your phone off and back on at the same time. Then try to update.
It may seem obvious, but make sure your phone's wi-fi is set to on, as it will not download other-wise.
