I am having trouble viewing movies, on a laptop or desktop, on AppleTV. I turn a computer on, bring up iTunes, turn the AppleTV unit on, click on computer, select the movie and it should come up on my TV. I get the circle object in the middle of the screen but no movie.
Nothing has changed but yesterday I was able to view my TV movies. Any assistance is appreciated.
iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10)
Try toggling off/on home sharing on ATV and computer. Reboot.
If on wifi try ethernet
To see a current status get a report from istumbler or similar. Look for signal strength, noise, nearby networks
Also, both AppleTV and your hardware should be on the same network (assuming you are using wifi network).
If they weren't on the same network the library wouldn't be accessible

Within iTunes (file - home sharing)

Thanks to all for your comments. At present I am unable to perform the operations you have recommended. When I get the opportunity I will try them and get back to you on the results.
Alright, I now can bring up the TV Movies on the AppleTV device after restoring the factory settings. But now when I click on TV Shows, on the AppleTV my computer (iTunes) brings up the next, either song, movie, TV Show..., when I have one of the areas highlighted on top. So if I have music selected and click on the AppleTV it brings up the music menu, on the TV, but also the next selection on the iTunes on the computer. Am I being a little confusing? Why is the AppleTV bringing up anything on the iTunes on the computer?
Sounds like the computer is picking up the signal from the remote.
Go into system preferences - security - general. Click the padlock and go into advanced. Check disable remote control infrared receiver
That appears to have taken care of the play-on-computer problem but now I am unable, once again, to show video from computer to AppleTV. Slowly running out of patience and almost ready to disconnect it and move on.
Then that will bring it back to the network. What had you done previously to troubleshoot?
Troubleshoot: I just check all the settings, restored the unit to factory settings. I just pulled the router, waited, plugged it back in and it appears to be working for now. Will test several times and hopefully the router was the main problem.
Unplugging will simply reboot the network. If the issue occurs again you will need to troubleshoot the connection as suggested above
