Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter 8000

Hi I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this mouse in OSX? This mouse just came out, and it's a bluetooth laser mouse. I got it last night and I can't seem to get it paired with bluetooth. Any ideas?

Just bought this mouse about one hour ago. Was thrilled about the possibility of eliminating the need for carying around a wireless presenation controller in my bag.

I have been trying for the past hour to get this baby to pair up with my internal bluetooth radio, but no matter what i try it just wont take. The device shows up when in discoverable mode but keeps giving an error when it trys to negotite passkeys.

When trying to sync up the device with passkeys disabled, the computer says "success", but the mouse never comes out of discoverable mode.

I finally gave up and inserted the microsoft dongle and the mouse works fine. Push the two buttons, and it syncs up right away..

I REALLLLYYYY want to find a way to get the mouse to sync up w/ apple's bluetooth, but from what i have been reading on the web, microsoft bluetooth mice are pretty much compliant to microsoft's version of the bluetooth stack.

Go microsoft for taking another standard and turning it proprietary!!

I have 14 days left before i need to return this baby. If i am unable to get it to sync up w/ the apple internal blueooth, the sucker is going back to the store.

I hope someone out there has some tricks to share, b/c its a shame if we are unable to use this device w/ our macs.

Bluetooth is a set specification for a wireless device.. You're telling me that no one makes an app that allows this mouse to communicate properly with the onboard bluetooth on mac's? !!! This just makes me so mad.. I just bought this from a guy thinking it was the coolest thing on earth and now you're telling me that It won't work!!! (didn't have the dongle when I purchased it)!

Yes bluetooth is a "specification" but the implementation of that specification is up to a vendor. Microsoft's bluetooth stack is notorious for being proprietary. Just do a google search for microsoft bluetooth stack. I am sure this mouse takes adantage of "extensions" that microsoft put in, and thus wont work.

If you pay attention real close to the setup of the bluetooth device, you will notice that apple's bluetooth hardware picks up the Hardware Identifier, but you are unable to have that register with the HID Mouse in the bluetooth stack.

Many vendors (dell included), have problems with their bluetooth hardware running the windows XP SP2 bluetooth stack.

As for the dongle, are u sure you purchased the presenter 8000, it comes w/ a fancy plastic case that rotates in the plastic packaging it comes in. Inside the clear plastic case will be the mouse and MS bluetooth dongle. If you didnt get one, return it and check the packaging for one that includes one.

sorry I do not have a specific sequence. I ran the Bluetooth Setup Assistant a couple of time. First attempt, it could not find the device, I quit and ran the assistant another couple of times choosing any device. Finally is saw the 8000, then when it tried to pair it up, that failed a bunch of times. Note I was mucking with the on/off and Bluetooth buttons on the bottom of the mouse thru this whole process.

Finally at the failure to pair up screen, I pressed the return key rapidly, returned to playing hockey with my boys and when I came back in, the pairing was successful.

What a PC experience.

Note in bluetooth mode, you only get the left, right, and scroll options. I am hoping that www.usboverdrive.com, will release the bluetooth version soon.

After much research, i found the trick to getting this mouse to work with my mac. Here is the solution, taken from the macrumors forums..

I followed the instructions exactly as shown below, except i did not have the MS Tools installed.. Works like a charm....

The steps below have been verified to connect my Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 on my MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.33 with Mac OS X 10.4.8, updates as of 1/1/2007.

1. Turn on the mouse
2. Press or hold down connect button until light flashes alternating red and green
3. Click Bluetooth tray icon; Browse Device...
4. If the device "Mouse" is not in the list click search, then click browse.
5. Next to search button it will say "Device does not have the necessary services."
6. Click Cancel; Quit Bluetooth File Exchange
7. Open System Preferences; Bluetooth; Devices section
8. Settings section; Click the device ID in the list of your mouse, Add to Favorites
9. Turn Bluetooth Off, Turn Bluetooth On
10. Light should stop blinking and the device will show up with status "Connected: Yes" in bluetooth device list.

Notes:
- The device name comes through as (null) and instead uses the device address for the name but this does not appear to effect functionality. Also OS X does not say that the device is "paired", only "connected" but it this doesn't seem to matter as it connects when available.
- When doing this I also had the Microsoft IntelliPoint 6.1 software installed, I'm not sure if it's necessary. In the Microsoft Mouse preference pane, About Microsoft Mouse, Mouse Info it states "No Microsoft mouse devices found".
- The mouse seems to be more jittery in OS X than it is in windows, possibly because the advanced features of the windows software like battery performance adjustment are not available.
- The left, right and pause/play buttons on the bottom appear to not work.
- The back and forward buttons can be programmed through the Dashboard & Expose preference pane as mouse button 4 and 5.
- It might be possible to use a mighty mouse or the following article to further configure buttons 4 and 5:
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...50806042924384
- I also have the mouse installed and working with a Boot Camp partition on the same system. After it is initially setup in both OS'es it is not necessary to re-pair the mouse when switching between OS X and Windows.
