Q: Cannot sort by events in Photos

All of my photos are now labeled by date!!! I cannot sort by Event to find the photos I need rendering this program almost useless.  For example, I have many Events labeled April, the name of a girl. In Photos, when I insert April, in search, all I get is the photos shot in the month of April for every year. I can no longer find photos of April the girl. How do I search Photos for events?

Nope  there are no events so there is no possible way to sort by events - Moments are the new "event"

and sort options are limited - for photos only sort by date - in all Photos only sort by date added

Moments in Photos are the new Events, i.e. groupings of photos sorted by date taken.

When the iPhoto Library was first migrated to Photos there was a folder created in the sidebar titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events (which are now Moments) are represented by an album in that folder. To open the sidebar if it's not already open use the Option+Command+S key combination.

There's a way to simulate events in Photos.

When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N.  Name it as desired.  It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the iPhoto Events folder

When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window.

The downside to the simulation is that the Albums/Events can only be sorted automatically by Title. But they can also be sorted manually, either in the sidebar or in the folder's window at the right.

Ask Apple for more sorting options in Photos via https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html.

This still does not tell me how to sort my old events, so I can find the photos I need. Photos is a nightmare I cannot use.

Your old events are now albums - to sort albums select the folder they are in an under the view menu you can choose keep sorted ty title - checked they are sorted by title - unchecked they are sorted by date

again there are limited sort options as I original posted

Actually, unchecked allows you to sort manually by any order you want, & you can toggle between sorted by title & whatever manual order you last used by checking/unchecking the sort by title menu item. I assume that the default unchecked sort order is by date, but once you manually change it, it won't be.

Of course, this only applies to folder & album titles, not to photos in albums.

Only a few Events were converted to Albums, so your suggestion does not work.

Then something went wrong during the migration of your iPhoto Library to the Photos one. This is often caused by problems in the iPhoto Library. Some users have had success by repairing the iPhoto Library & starting over.
