Is there a way to change the pause settings on Apple TV?

It's a bit annoying because on HBO Now and Hulu Plus if we pause a program for more than a couple of minutes the app will close and revert to the Home Page. We then have to navigate back through the HBO Now or Hulu Plus app to find the series and then the show we were watching to resume it. Oftentimes it will not resume where it was left off, but will start over again despite selecting the resume option.

First world problems, I know. But if there's a way to change the settings to be able to pause for a bit longer, that would be wonderful.
