Able to try/demo LPX in an Apple Store?

I was wondering what the odds are of someone being able to show me anything on LPX in an Apple Store if I made the trip?

It's really sad there is no way to demo the software to see if it can do what I want without being totally obtuse to use. I suppose I could find a local user to give me a demo lesson, but that's not so comfortable. Im getting around in GarageBand OK - which many people say is Logic Lite - but the main thing I need is MIDI I/O, syncing to external clock, and possible re-channelizing - and GB has no MIDI out. Someone had mentioned using "The Environment" to me - but it looks like a UI mess from a screenshot - so I need to see it for myself.

It;s unlikely though not impossible, that there will be a Logic Specialist available at any given Apple Store.... However, give them a call in advance and ask if there is anyone there that can assist you...,.

Failing that, there is a multitude of information available on the web in the form of documents and videos.... that should easily allow you to make an informed decision.

But of course, if you feel this uncomfortable buying a piece of software that doesn't allow you to 'demo' it... then choose a different piece of software that does....

It turned out that the Apple Store I visited had installed LPX on all machines so I was able to have a good long look through the software and get a good sense of it.

I was over greeted by several employees that didn't even know it was on their computers, and was told to wait for higher level support people in the store, but while waiting around for that I got away from them and went and found it on a machine all on my own. lol

There are many things about it that are tempting, but it's either that or the more pro oriented Digital Performer for me... still deciding.

Hi,

I can clear one thing up, Logic does not sync to external MIDI clock. (most DAW's don't as MIDI sync is taken from the audio clock) Logic does send MIDI Clock sync out. REAPER is one of current MIDI/Audio sequencers that can sync to incoming MIDI clock, (song position pointer)

As far as rechannelizing... depends on what stage you want/need it. Logic records on the incoming MIDI channel and rechannelizes the output.

I'll probably get shot down for this but Logic is less Pro than it used to be and not necessarily because of the Logic software. There have been numerous compatibility problems between Mac OS and Logic, every time an OS upgrade happens, (even incremental updates), Logic seems to falter in one way or another.. many here will agree that current users are the Logic beta test team. A few Logic and Mac OS updates later, things start running pretty smooth again. Apple is releasing new operating system, yearly it seems like, so there is always a bit of a stability problem. I think Apple would rather dispense with the pro users, they complain too much. Here's a current problem, most users are having trouble exporting movies that don't have large blank areas. Logic X isn't nearly as efficient as it used to but neither is Mac OS. It's always been that way but Apple is setting new records for planned obsolescence, does keep the money flowing in though....
