Using 30 pin port while charging

Hello,

I wonder if it is possible to use the 30-pin connector on my iPhone 4S while charging?

What I mean is; are there any adapters that let you plug in both a charger and e.g. an external sound card simultaneously?

The reason for asking is that a lot of apps "eat battery for breakfast".
