May 21, 2015 5:25 AM in response to SaltSeaSharkby SaltSeaShark,Since posting, I've found threads with similar problems, none entirely resolved:
can't turn off iCloud keychain
iCloud keychain stuck on "waiting for approval from another device"
Can't turn off / disable the keychain (can't sign out iCloud)
Tried calling support but they're in disarray over all the outages to iCloud today - 11 services down and counting - plenty of twitter posts but no news items, yet.
Given the threads above, I suspect the problem is not related to current outtages, but will just have to wait...

May 21, 2015 7:52 AM in response to SaltSeaSharkby SaltSeaShark,Apple System status now reporting all back up and running. Still no luck logging out of iCloud. Keychain will not uncheck - simply rechecks itself after a few seconds.
I've tried repairing keychains, disabling Safari passwords, restarting, etc.
Any other ideas?
Thanks,

May 21, 2015 8:42 PM in response to SaltSeaSharkby BigPickle,I tried several of the methods I found regarding this issue. What finally resolved it for me was to disable Keychain on my iPhone at Settings >iCloud. Instantly, the recurring self-checking box on my MBA stopped self-checking the box. Then, I was able to log out.

May 27, 2015 2:21 PM in response to BigPickleby jd2020,Turning off iCloud Keychain on my iPhone solved the stuck check and "waiting for approval..." message instantly! Thanks much.
This thread has a much more detailed (and time consuming) procedure which might help if turning off one device doesn't work.
