It should be possible to import clips from an SD card with Private / AVCHD ... directory using iMovie 10 or 9. Which version are you using? What happens when you try? (error messages?). What resolution and frame rate are the video clips?
Can you open it with Quicktime X?
Geoff.
I had this problem once, and I had to import it using File > Import Media instead of dragging the file in.
With iMovie 9 you have to use the Import Media route. With iMovie 10 you can also drag and drop clips from the STREAM folder (PRIVATE / AVCHD / BDMV / STREAM).
Geoff.
I am using 10.0.6 There are no files in the stream folder.
I tried this an nothing is in the stream folder. Only quicktime files are the AVCHD and BDMV but they can only be opened using show package details. There are no files in the other folders as well.
I am also seeing a quicktime file called MOVIEOBJ.BDM
If there is nothing in the STREAM folder then you have no AVCHD movie clips on the card which explains why iMovie can't find anything to import. The AVCHD, BDM packages (special folders) and IMOVIEOBJ.BDM file are written by the camera when you insert a blank card but contain no video clips.
How much space has been used on the card? I guess its not much unless you have some non-AVCHD footage.
Geoff.
