Purchased songs from my computer to wedding DJ's equipment

I've been buying music to play at my wedding, but I heard that songs that are bought from iTunes store may not work on my DJ's equipment... Am I going to have a problem giving my playlist to my DJ? I bought very specific renditions and instrumental covers that I like... I don't want to rely on what the DJ might have. ...but now I'm worried that buying the songs from iTunes might have been a mistake... they are basically worthless if they won't play on the DJ's equipment.

Is it going to be ok as is.... or do I need to do something for it to work?

Thanks for the help

Songs purchased from the iTunes Store are in AAC format. Although AAC is not as widely accepted as the far more usable MP3 format, it might still play in your DJ's equipment, depending what he or she is using.

You better ask the DJ to make sure. if you need to convert the AACs to MP3, follow this guide => iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format - Apple Support

BTW, all songs sold by the iTunes Store are licensed for "personal non-commercial" use only. Playing them as part of a public performance is not really allowable. But hopefully nobody will hassle you about a little wedding music. 🙂

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my question. One concern I have is about it only working on an 'authorized computer.' DJ's typically work from laptops these days... Will I need to sign her into my iTunes account or something...?

As for the 'commercial use' part...I hadn't even considered that since it's just my family and I won't be charging them admission to my wedding... It's basically an extra large dinner party (many of these songs came off of 'dinner party' and 'wedding' compilations... So, why would wedding collections be sold on the iTunes store if I can't use them for my wedding?

...I probably should have just used Amazon... But I thought I should buy from the iTunes store because I appreciate the free songs of the week and I've been using Apple products my entire life... I've never needed songs to play on something other than my computer or iPhone before... Now it just seems like I signed up for extra hassle...

...unless I'm worrying for nothing and they will work on her equipment...

I considered just burning a CD or buying an iPod to play them off of, but then there wouldn't be professional transitions between songs...

I just need the songs for the dinner portion of the evening... For the rest of the night she can play from her own collection... But I don't want to have to re-purchase two hours of music somewhere else...

Would converting them to a different file format solve the 'authorized computer' issue? Is that an issue? Will converting be very lossy? I want the best sound (since it's for my wedding).

Thanks again... I know I wrote a wall of text...

Nightshade,

Assuming they were purchased from the iTunes Store recently (after mid-2009), they are not DRM-protected, and will supposedly play without the need for authorization. However, you can look at this Forum any day of the week and still see lots of people having problems with authorization. So I strongly suggest you work with the DJ well in advance and make sure everything is OK.

Ok; I bought them this year...hopefully it won't be troublesome. Thanks for the info.

I am currently in Japan but my wedding will be in the states (where I am from), so arranging things can be time-consuming. I will definitely check ahead of time with my DJ...I was just hoping to get a quick 'it will be ok.' Heh. Planning weddings is stressful. (^_^;)

Thanks again :-)
