Q: Can you use AirPlay on an older Mac?

I have a Mac from 2009, before AirPlay was available, is there anyway to be able to use this feature on this Mac or will I have to upgrade to a new one?

iMac, iOS 8.2

The list for Mac AirPlay support is here.  Nothing before 2011.

I have never tried AirParrot but believe others have been able to make it work with earlier models. It looks like you can get a 7-day trial.

Is your goal to use AirPlay for just streaming audio to an AirPlay-ready device OR to stream AND to use AirPlay Mirroring to stream your Mac's desktop to an Apple TV? If it's the latter, then jjkraw has set you straight. However for just streaming audio, your pre-2011 Mac should be capable of doing so.
