How to achieve 144hz on a MacMini (late 2012)

Hello there,

I have recently purchased a BenQ XL2411Z monitor that I have hooked up to my Mac Mini. However, I'm unable to go above 60Hz refresh rate on the display settings. Upon talking to an Apple employee I discovered that this is because HDMI doesn't support above 60Hz refresh rate meaning that I will need to use a thunderbolt to DVI-D connector.

I was just wondering whether anyone had any similar experiences and were able to actually achieve a 144Hz (or at least 120Hz) refresh rate using a mac device? I'm slightly cautious about spending the money on a cable (The Apple official one is around £80) that won't give me the desired results.!

Thank you for your help!
