Numbers- trying to add down column g and program adds across row 12. How can I correct?

Numbers- trying to add down column g and program adds across row 12. How can I correct? other columns stay same. This was started in numbers 08. Now using 5.3.2

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

hopefully you are using 3.5.2 (since it is the latest). Please post a screenshot or at least the formula you are using.

to sum all cells in column G use the formula:

=sum(G)
