iPod Classic 160 GB

I have an ASUS tablet running Win 8.1 with all recent updates . I have loaded iTunes successfully and have purchased new songs. However, my iPod is not recognized so I can't see the iPod in iTunes to get my library on to the tablet or for iTunes to recognize my iPod. I'm sure the fix must be something simple but I cannot locate the instruction's. Can someone point me in the right direction?
