My iPad is connected to old iCloud account

My iPad is connected to old iCloud account and I can't remember password. Cannot recover it as I shut that email account down in Feb! Can't even use the recovery questions as they don't want to recognise my answers!? Am completely stuck and need to update my iPad to new iCloud account but can't - I think it has something to do with "Find my iPad" being switched on - can't turn it off as don't know password! Vicious circle 🙂. HELPPPPPP!
