Q: storage issue

Dear Apple,

I am using macbook pro i 7 2.9 GHz with memory 8GB i have a problem regarding storage as you see below its showing only 16 GB is free though i have only 250GB of movies apart from that only MS Office with and a couple of GBs songs & photos.

I tried very hard to locate this others section but couldn't find anything no cache no cookies & this thing occur after i have update my os with new OS X Yosemite. Its really irritating please help me out with this.

thank you for this but the thing i want to know where is this folder exist i m not getting where is my 500GB is hiding ... ?? is there any way to locate it ?

For unknown reasons. Gail's link is not working for me:

This Apple support article defines OTHER which is a legitimate category:

However there is no such folder as OTHER.

Try reindexing Spotlight which may correct the sizes on the display that you posted:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201716

If no success, download from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper and Grand Perspective 9both free) and open them. They will show all of your files and the respective sizes. These tools should allow you to properly account for all of the data that you have on your MBP.
