HOW CAN i connect an apple monitor to a g5 mac (bought in 2010)

We are editing a film and purchased in 2010 (all brand new at the time) the following:

An Apple Monitor (Display) (2010)

A G5 PowerMac Computer (2010)

We took meticulous care of the equipment and worked on it perfectly up until three years ago. At that time we boxed all of the equipment safely and in a climate controlled environment.

We recently 'powered up' the equipment and the monitor will not budge, but we think that we have a missing cable.

We are so confused because there is no power button on the display and always had a very responsible staff member working on it with us in the same room during the period listed above. This is important because we never actually learned how to configure the wiring hookup and did not realize how 'complicated' this is without the 2010 Apple Monitor not having a power button!!

Anyway, we know that the Apple Monitor is fine, but it's worrisome because we don't see it powering on as we try to connect some of the cords. Basically, we don't know what cord(s) we need to get this thing turned on.

Can someone help us?

Thanks!!!

If the computer really is an old PowerPC pre-2006 PowerMac -- not a later Mac Pro intel-based tower,

the dark display in some cases may be due to the clock battery being dead; as that could contribute to

a symptom of display not working, among other issues when a computer is coming out of storage.

Of the later Apple cinema displays, (aluminum) that may have been available with newer MacPro Tower

that looks like a G5 Tower, these have buttons that are touch-sensitive on the right end of the display.

These displays would also have been available to the G5 PowerMac tower, of the era.

If the settings in the system were selected to ignore the power button & brightness, on display, then you

would have to access them from the system preference for displays. Or perhaps start in safeboot or

maybe recovery, to see if you can get past the system preferences at that user interface level.

There were three versions of the Apple Cinema display (aluminum) as these were 20-inch, 23-inch, and

30-inch, DVI. These were made over several years and did see modification over various build life models.

Hard to be sure, though, about computers -- if you may have bought new-old-stock G5 PowerMac towers

in 2010 instead of then-current new stock Intel-based MacPro towers with same build year peripherals.

So there is an important matter of correctly identifying the product -- beyond the use of a name does help. 🙂
