My Guide: Setting up SSL Network Extender VPN on Mac
I had some trouble setting up Checkpoint SSL VPN on a Mac.
In the hope of helping one poor soul out there I'll post my guide on how I at least accomplished this task:
1. Go to your Checkpoint SSL VPN-site. You should have the option to Download SSL Network Extender manual installation there. The menu drops down and reveals the option: Download command line SNX for Macintosh. Download this file (snx_install_osx.sh)
2. Follow this guide and install the downloaded file:
3. Install Java
https://www.java.com/en/download/help/mac_install.xml
4. Install Firefox:
https://support.mozilla.org/no/kb/installer-firefox-pa-mac
Post installation:
- Run Firefox. Set as default browser. (Safari doesn't work with the SSL Network Extender - at least I couldn't make it work)
- Navigate to your VPN-site.
- Add to bookmarks. Copy bookmark to dekstop if you'd like.
5. Connect Network drives.
- Open Automator (found in Finder udner Software) > Create new application
- Drag Get Specified Servers to the right part of the view.
- Connect to your Windows shared drive in this way: "smb://YourServer/SharedFolder"
- Archive (save) this where you'd want it. I chose Desktop and named it "Connect to Drive"
- Open Finder and go to Finder Preferences (Command+K)
- In the General-tab check the box named Connected Servers.
- Close Finder
6. Leave a guide for the user:
- Open VPN-bookmark
- Log in (if prompted; Trust Site and Run Java)
- Open Connect to Drive.
- Use the newly added folder as you would at work.
I hope that this helps someone out. Feel free to cuss me out if I've missed something or if something in this leads you astray.
