My husband and two sons have Ipods and I have set my sons up with their own icloud emails. When they are getting messages from their friends it is also going to each other and their father. How do you stop this from happening?

On your devices go to Settings>Messages>Send and Receive. and uncheck the email address used by kids.
You can also use their iCloud ID in Settings>Messages Send and Receive instead of the common ID/email address you not seem to be using
OK Great that seems to be working now. I have set up family members so the kids have to have our authority to buy games etc. but I understood a request would come through to my husbands ipod which isn't happening, have I missed something?
To use Family Sharing, everyone has to have their own Apple ID. It seems you may all be sharing the same Apple ID.
