after restoring contacts from a backup they are restored then disappear after about 10 minutes

I mistakenly deleted several important contacts. I reset my iPhone 4 and successfully restored my contacts from an older backup. After about 10 minutes, they disappeared again. Does anyone know how to stop the restored contacts from disappearing?

iPhone 4, iOS 7.1.2
