how much storage space is on my macbook air 10.6.8?

I'd like to update my OS to Yosemite, but it says I don't have enough space. Where can i go to find that out? There isn't a "Storage" tab I can click on that shows me that nice little picture of all my junk.

Also, how can I free up space? I don't have any movies or many pictures on it. Does the "Mail" app store all my email on the computer? How can I permanently delete it off my computer, but not gmail?

Finder will show how much storage is available. Remember in order to run Yosemite and have a good user experience the Mac needs 4GB or more of RAM. If you have a 2GB MBA I would recommend against upgrading to Yosemite.

To learn how to get Finder to show the available space please read http://osxdaily.com/2011/08/05/show-available-disk-space-status-bar-in-mac-os-x- lion/
