i tried this and it just brought me back to this page? i have managed to get into desktop folder it says i have 24k items on my desktop i am assuming this is why its freezing so quick if i log in as another user i can't get access to any of my old items?
From the other account, choose Utilities from the Finder's Go menu, open the AppleScript Editor, and run:
do shell script "mv /Users/username/Desktop/ /Users/username/Desktop_old/" with administrator privileges
putting that account's home folder name where username is.

sorry Niel I'm not very good at this, how do i put the admin privileges and folder name where user name is?
Just replace both instances of 'username' with the affected account's short name. The script handles needing the administrator privileges itself.

it says unexpected expression but found"/"
What exactly do you have in the AppleScript Editor?

sorry for delay nil,
in the script i have copied the above script and changed the username to the following:-
mv/Users / kyliespear / desktop / Users / kyliespear / Desktop_old
if there is a way to access my iPhoto from the other user i could cope with not using the other user?
You need to use:
do shell script "mv /Users/kyliespear/Desktop/ /Users/kyliespear/Desktop_old/" with administrator privileges
exactly as posted, including the quotes and exact spacing.

that saved on the bottom in result should i now check the other account and save the file script in a folder?
You should now check the other account; it doesn't really matter whether or not you save the script.

still the same :/
is there a way to access the files and pics from other account?
Select the home folder in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, give yourself read access in the Sharing & Permissions section, and copy the files out.
