iMessage activation error

I am traveling outside the U.S. using wifi, and my iMessage worked fine this morning. Now it keeps saying there is an error in the activation. I have tried turning off iMessage and then turning my phone off then on then turning iMessage back on but it still is not working. How do I fix this problem?
