Q: My recent calls appearing on another iPhone!?

Hi,

Hopefully you can help.

I use my phone for business and we have noticed in the last few days that all of the calls I make and receive are appearing in my wife's iPhone recent call history?

I have hunted high and low in settings on both phones but with no joy.

It is only affecting calls i make, not the other way round? so i am not seeing calls my wife makes on her phone in my recent call history?

It is also not affecting text messages...

We are both using the same iCloud account but the inconsistencies above suggest its something more involved (or very simple!)

The slightly odd thing is that it only seems to do it when my phone is at home, i went out this afternoon and the calls made/received have not appeared on her history. so maybe its a wifi thing?...but...

I also phoned vodafone when i got home to see if they could help (they couldn't!) and that short dial number is also not appearing on her history?

You can share photos without sharing ID or  using family sharing, by using iCloud photo sharing. But you knew that before posting, didn't you?

Yes, it is possible to share photos through the Sharing features of OS X and iOS. However, this does not achieve the same result as having a unified photo account as the shared photos are in "optimized" resolution and without metadata, and as you need to share each album manually. I use this quite a bit, but with my friends, not my wife with whom I share the whole photo account. It may not be for anyone, and I am sure that for many people having totally separate Apple ID is the better solution, but to the best of my knowledge, for some of us, only using a common Apple ID for the primary iCloud account allows us (so far):

    - to have one photo account (all photos automatically shared at full resolution in the stock Apple apps)

    - to have the same Safari bookmarks, reading list etc

    - to use a common keychain

    - common back to my mac

    - same iCloud drive for documents etc

There are indeed good solutions for many other aspects:  Apple allows secondary iCloud accounts, so it is perfectly possible to have distinct iCloud accounts (and associated Apple IDs) for separate contacts, calendars and reminders (so your work reminders do not pop-up on your spouse's phone for example)  while using the common iCloud account for the contacts, calendars, reminder and notes you want to share. As for music and apps, this never was really an issue, it is sufficient to use a dedicated Apple ID for iTunes. It means distinct Apple IDs for iTunes, iCloud, and then FaceTime  and iMessage, but it works very well. But secondary iCloud account cannot apply to Safari, Photos, Documents, Keychain, and Back to my Mac. If and when Family sharing is updated to allow efficient sharing of photos, keychains, and iCloud drive (plus maybe iTunes Match, but I do not use this, and it may become obsolete with Apple Music), then I would no longer object to separate our iCloud accounts. But, unless I am mistaken, Family Sharing is not quite ready for that yet even if it is a step in the right direction.

Furthermore, beyond the merits of sharing or not sharing Apple IDs and iCloud accounts, the issue of recent calls from other phones does exist as a problem on its own: I share what I want to share, but I have two iPhones and my wife also has one: I do not want to mix the call records of these phones, not even of my 2 iPhones: they serve separate purposes, and each phone should have it own records. Mixing them is very confusing. So at the minimum, this should be an option. It may be seen as a feature by some, but not all. Hopefully iOS 8.4 will either remove this behavior or give us the choice.

I talked with someone at Apple this morning about this; he had no clue about what I was explaining to him... this is weird, started to notice it this weekend, had calls to and from another province?!

Started to freak out about who was using my phone without me noticing; called the phone company; they had no idea what I was talking about...

Called Apple; no clue either...I asked my girlfriend if she made these calls and she said yes... So our call log are syncing right now...

just weird, I hope the update will fix it...

This is a true story. Due to this bug of "recent calls" being mixed between iPhones using the same AppleID, I have separated from my girlfriend of 4 years. Thanks Apple.

    Exactly.

Actually, I believe I have resloved my issue, found one of my iPads with the hand off still turned on and iCloud drive on. Turned them off and now since the last weekend I have not had my call logs on my wife's phone.  Every device with your apple account logged in had to have both items off.

Thanks for the constant effort to actually find a resolution. The high and almighty members should take note of your actual help. Keep up the good work and absolutely keep us posted on the future results of the changes you made.

I had the exact same problem, let me tell you how I fixed it.  First, my wife and I also share the same account.  (I am familiar with the arguments for not sharing an account, we prefer sharing.)  For security reasons, we only use the cloud for contacts.   Interestingly, my problems started only after I purchased an Apple Watch.

On BOTH iPhones:  Settings > FaceTime turn off "iPhone Cellular Calls".

After performing the above, the problem went away (Apple Watch working A-OK also).   I can't guarantee it will fix it for you.  I am simply describing what fixed it for me.

Joe Walsh instead of concentrating on insulting people, improve your research methods. If you read above through the thread you will find my contributions , which are many, discussing the various scenarios. Guys like you should be wiped off the forum. You don't have any idea who you are talking to, believe me.

This was the first thing I had changed on our phones and wasn't the issue. What I previous posted fixed my issue so far for the last 4 days now.

robdinoto - I am not talking about contributors like yourself who actually post real, helpful suggestions and results. I am speaking of the so called "high level" members that do nothing but state their opinion as fact and bash anyone that disagrees. Hopefully everything will work out with your girlfriend. Good luck.

I Don't know if this will help but it might worth a try. When all the recent calls was copied to my second phone, I deleted recent calls from both phones and did not change any other settings. The problem has not  happened again going on a couple weeks now.

Glad to hear you got it working.  In all honesty, there's a lot to read here.  Because the threat was continuing, I just responded to the original question.

Please point out in my post where I "bashed" anyone; I will wait here. Also point out where I "stated my opinion as fact." I'll wait for that as well but I will grow cobwebs under my arms before you'll be able to do that.
