Q: My recent calls appearing on another iPhone!?

Hi,

Hopefully you can help.

I use my phone for business and we have noticed in the last few days that all of the calls I make and receive are appearing in my wife's iPhone recent call history?

I have hunted high and low in settings on both phones but with no joy.

It is only affecting calls i make, not the other way round? so i am not seeing calls my wife makes on her phone in my recent call history?

It is also not affecting text messages...

We are both using the same iCloud account but the inconsistencies above suggest its something more involved (or very simple!)

The slightly odd thing is that it only seems to do it when my phone is at home, i went out this afternoon and the calls made/received have not appeared on her history. so maybe its a wifi thing?...but...

I also phoned vodafone when i got home to see if they could help (they couldn't!) and that short dial number is also not appearing on her history?

My wife and I have two different iTunes accounts setup on our phones; however, we share the same iCloud account. before iOS 9 there were no problems, now occasionally and randomly, my call history shows up on her phone and vice versa. She is at work and I looked at my phone today and notice a received call from her dad. He didn't call me. Why would iCloud make our call history logs sync? Also, there have been some occasions where missed calls show up on both phones. I do have "Handoff" turned off on all devices.

Okay. Can't read through all these posts.

    My situation.

2 iPhones. 1 Apple ID, to share contacts. And not can't use Family Sharing because Apple won't put Contacts into Family Sharing.

We have both always had Face Time turned OFF. On Saturday I turned Face Time "ON" on my iPhone (to make an audio international call).

And today, Wednesday an incoming phone call to my wives iPhone showed up on my locked screen and all her recent calls now show up on my recent list.

I turned OFF Face Time on my iPhone and everything went back to normal.

She turned ON Face Time on her iPhone and it show my phone number in the lists. Which I understand because Face Time is linked to the Apple ID.

I do believe this is a bug. Should have the option to change Face Time associated numbers.

    Just my 2 cents.

I should NOT be receiving cellular phone call notifications my on iPhone that are meant for my wives iPhone!

Now, I have tested a lot and therefor an update from my case:

I really do not understand this bug, because of the current different "solutions". And where this behavior technically comes from.

Is it synced via "iPhone Cellular Calls"-Option, because some of you wrote, that it stopped happening if you switched of only this option. For me, this didn’t help. It is switched off, but the sync is still there. So this is not the final solution, but I could help. For me I tried both, disbale it and enable it and disable the devices under the option. It didn't work. Still sync from one of the devices to the other - not the other way round.

Or is it synced via Facetime, because some of you wrote, that it stopped happening if you switched of facetime on one or both of the iPhones. So this is not the final solution, but I could help. For me I tried to disable it. It didn't work. Still sync from one of the devices to the other - not the other way round.

Or is it (only) synced via iCloud documents/drive. I thought initially, that this is the work-around, but I need iCloud for both of my work/private iPhones and this is, for what iCloud is designed for.

=> "iPhone Cellular Calls" switched off. Facetime switched off. But still this damned sync. Aaargh.

And some of you have it in both ways from each iPhone to the other. Some of you (as I) have it only in one way from one iPhone to the other, but not in the other direction.

And some of you have it always, but some (as I) only have this from time to time and only by chance. And it starts for some after migrating from one iOS-.x version, for some when migrating to x. version. For me it starts at one point of time, without any update on both iPhones and with 8.x.

This all is really a curiosity, if there is no description, when and with with which iOs-versions and with which settings is should work all the time and in both directions (if really no bug, but feature) and with no descriptions to switch this off, for the users with two personal work/private-iPhones, who do not want this crap.

I think, the "best" way should be the iPhone Cellular Calls-Option. If I want to call with different iPhones on the same number, then perhaps, I want to have the call list synced. If not, not. Or the really best way should be a simple "sync call list"-switch in the Options. Voila.

I must admit that i finally saw the reality and ALSO taken L.Finch's advice on the solution ultimately being to NOT have the same Apple ID's....thats right, i split us up and it was a bit of leg work no doubt involving family share, which by the way went super apple smoothly here, but its really been time for us to do this as we both have iphones, ipads, desktop. apple tv....etc...which we didnt have in the early 2000's....agai i say it was WAYYY worth the effrot and my wife thinks so as well.

The solution for you is quite simple.  For example, get another ID for yourself and your wife retains the original ID with all the iCloud contacts.  You sign out of the original ID completely, then sign into your new ID and set up whatever iCloud services you want to use -- but do not enable Contacts.  Then add the original ID to your iPhone as a 2nd iCloud account -- yes, you can have more than one iCloud account on your device.  The new ID will serve as your primary ID for iMessage, FaceTime, etc. but the 2nd iCloud account will not support these services.  So when you add the 2nd (original) ID to your iPhone it will not support iMessage or FaceTime (and thus no sharing of call history), but the 2nd iCloud account on your iPhone will support Contacts, so you can continue sharing Contacts with your wife.

Okay. Kind of follow what you are saying. But we do have 2 Apple ID's. She uses one for just her email.

Going to try to long into FaceTime on her iPhone with her ID.

    Thanks.

But again I should NOT be receiving cellular phone call notifications my on iPhone that are meant for my wives iPhone!

I dont understand how the two separate phone numbers can receive phone calls. Is it because the ID's are associated w/ the ID's, if they are they should not be. They are phone numbers!

For this to happen, I believe there are two ingredients:  (1) Sharing an iCloud ID, and (2) "Allow Calls on Other Devices" has to be enabled.*  If you've met both conditions then your iPhones are doing what is intended, sharing calls and call history.

*Title and location within Settings varies by iOS version.

Yes. Sharing an iCloud ID. No "Allow Calls on Other Devices" is disabled on both devices.

Only stared to happen when Face Time was turned ON on one device.

I can confirm that turning iCloud Drive off on one of the phones worked for me on clearing up the jumbled recent call list.  I had tried all other listed options in this thread.  Seems to me its a bug in iCloud drive... I was chatting with apple support and they def said it should not be doing that.

Make sure in contacts on both phones show correct "me" for each phone.

i was listed as the "me" on my husband's phone and all his calls would show on mine.

you can fix it in settings:

settings>> mail, contacts, calendars>> scroll to contacts>> my info... Select yourself.

Thank you so much. I logged out of my apple id on facetime and the problem went away on all my devices.

I have logged back in & it appears the problem is still resolved so only time will tell.

Thank You so much  Every time we update new version of ios, I have to go into phone, message & facetime in settings and turn off other devices but this was a new one.
