Q: My recent calls appearing on another iPhone!?

Hi,

Hopefully you can help.

I use my phone for business and we have noticed in the last few days that all of the calls I make and receive are appearing in my wife's iPhone recent call history?

I have hunted high and low in settings on both phones but with no joy.

It is only affecting calls i make, not the other way round? so i am not seeing calls my wife makes on her phone in my recent call history?

It is also not affecting text messages...

We are both using the same iCloud account but the inconsistencies above suggest its something more involved (or very simple!)

The slightly odd thing is that it only seems to do it when my phone is at home, i went out this afternoon and the calls made/received have not appeared on her history. so maybe its a wifi thing?...but...

I also phoned vodafone when i got home to see if they could help (they couldn't!) and that short dial number is also not appearing on her history?

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.3

You can share ID's if you want to, you can also deal with the consequences of doing that.

If I hear of a solution, I will definitely post it here...

A solution that would get it to work like it used to would be greatly appreciated.

It was perfectly fine before iOS 9. I don't know why some keep telling that sharing the apple ID is the problem here. it's not.

I solved this problem disabling iCloud drive form one of the iPhones. I suppose it's not a definitive solution.

It's not a definitive solution. It's a band aid. People keep saying the problem is sharing an ID because the problem is sharing an ID.

i wonder if there is a clue there.   I wonder if there is an iCloud setting that may also contribute to the problem... I have the iCloud Drive turned off but I am using Contacts, Calendar, Reminders and Backup along with FMI... Everything else is turned off...

Some of our users make choices they find objectionable, but can't bring themselves to do anything about it.

If it was perfectly fine before iOS 9 why are there posts asking about it for iOS 8? The answer to both iOS 8 and iOS 9 is Apple added features in iOS 8 that permitted sharing information between iOS devices sharing an iCloud ID. Before iOS 8 there was no way to share between devices. Before iOS 8 if you shared an iCloud ID with someone else, even though it wasn't recommended even then, nothing unusual would happen. With the new sharing feature in iOS 8 many things get shared between devices sharing an iCloud ID: Photos, Safari bookmarks, contacts, calendars, call lists, "continuity", data files for Apple apps. And 3rd party developers could also use iCloud Drive to share data files between devices.

Once sharing was a feature there were distinct disadvantages to sharing an Apple ID. However, there had been good reasons to share one, primarily for purchases and sharing calendars. So Apple created Family Sharing, allowing different users to still share apps, music, videos and other content, but still have separate iCloud IDs.

Wow - there are posts about battery drains and wi-fi problems, across many releases - it doesn't make them features or designs. They were bugs that affected some users in different ways.

Does this have anything to do with this thread, perhaps I can have it moved to a more appropriate one for you?

New additions to this thread should note that using an iCloud account as a multi user account is unsupported and will result in unpredictable and often undesirable results.

You should be aware of this fact before choosing to take this route.

I just tried Settings>FaceTime and then made sure no other numbers or emails appeared except the one belonging to that particular device, and also made sure apple iD was deselected for FaceTime on everything but my phone. This seems to have worked for me. Time will tell.

    Fingers crossed.

    Hi John,

I've been fooled many times - it takes at least 24 hours before one can be sure that the call histories are not being mingled.  But I'm glad if this works for you.

For whatever it's worth, each device I have has a unique Facetime device address (two have different phone numbers, the iPad has an email address) and I'm still seeing the problem.
