Q: My recent calls appearing on another iPhone!?

Hi,

Hopefully you can help.

I use my phone for business and we have noticed in the last few days that all of the calls I make and receive are appearing in my wife's iPhone recent call history?

I have hunted high and low in settings on both phones but with no joy.

It is only affecting calls i make, not the other way round? so i am not seeing calls my wife makes on her phone in my recent call history?

It is also not affecting text messages...

We are both using the same iCloud account but the inconsistencies above suggest its something more involved (or very simple!)

The slightly odd thing is that it only seems to do it when my phone is at home, i went out this afternoon and the calls made/received have not appeared on her history. so maybe its a wifi thing?...but...

I also phoned vodafone when i got home to see if they could help (they couldn't!) and that short dial number is also not appearing on her history?

Additionally my contacts and my wifes contacts were once synced 4 years ago, before we realized all of our contacts would be shared. When we went to un-sync the contacts we found out that by deselecting the sync contacts button all phone contacts would be deleted!

Not sure how you were doing that? If the Contacts were being sync'd via iCloud, then when you go to Settings>iCloud, you can turn off the Contacts option. When you turn it off, these are the options you are given:

If you select "Keep on My iPhone", then the local copies of the Contacts remain in place. From that point forward, any changes made to Contacts will be device-specific, and will not sync.

    Cheers,

It's a good thing that my husband and I have nothing to hide between us, but this is beyond obnoxious that all my calls show up on his call log. And hello on privacy/legal issues! Doesn't look like anyone on this thread has fixed the issue. I've taken my phone to the Apple store and they attempted to fix it but same problem going on when I got home. So frustrating!

There are no privacy / legal issues. The only "issue" is your violation of the Terms of Use for iCloud. STOP SHARING AN ID. As has been stated from the beginning, the IDs are NOT intended to be shared.

Try going to Settings, Phone and Calls On Other Devices and turn it off.  It appears to have worked for me.

The venom on this thread is horrible (and I skipped 80% of it).  We're supposed to be helping each other not attacking.  No one is obligated to like your answer and no one is obligated to give you an answer that you like or that solves your particular problem.  If that bothers you, don't post.

Refusing to accept the correct answer will not alter reality in any way. IDs are not meant to be shared. That's not just Apple's "opinion" of how it should work.

But not bothering to read 8 out of 10 posts helps to ignore the reality of the situation.

    I HAVE A SOLUTION!!!!!

To all of those posters who are constantly harping on the fact that people should not share Apple ID, this message is not for you. In fact, it should become evident at this point in time most of the people on this particular message thread no longer want to hear from you. They want solutions, not people haranguing them to give in to something Apple did which we did not ask for.

I sent an email to Tim Cook last week and reiterated the problem and how it suddenly arose after years of problem free devices which share the same Apple ID.  I pointed to this thread as well as threads on Mac Rumors.  The next day I heard from a high up official at Apple and then a high up customer rep, and I was offered a solution. Although they agree the solution is not perfect, they assured me that Apple does now recognize that there is a problem for some users and they will be working on a better solution - such as a switch to simply turn on or off sharing of recent call lists.

The solution is to turn off iCloud drive.  It may work by just turning off iCloud drive on one of the devices.  I turned it off and have not had shared call logs since.  Of course, if I used iCloud drive often, which I don't, it would be a very bad solution.   The fact is that it is simple and it works.  Turn off iCloud drive on one device and if that does not work, on both of them.

I hope the trolls and negative people who simply like to harangue other users will now find another issue for them to populate as pests.

And if you'd bothered to actually read and attempt to comprehend anything in this thread, you would have know that this "solution" has already been presented here multiple times.

Congratulations on repeating what's already known.

Wow. Some of you ppl certainly know how to dehumanize others. I had to stop looking at Twitter yesterday because of all the Muslim-hate, finger-pointing about responsible gun control (or rather lack thereof). Next time I feel like sticking my head in the oven, I'll just hop onto an Apple SUPPORT community. Please seek counseling for your anger issues or go to Reddit.

Thank you to those who offered suggestions. I can't always read back through all the posts to get what I need, especially when most of the posts are just chastising me about how stupid I am.

    Best.

I agree that a few of the people on this thread have put people down.   Not everyone has the TIME all day to read hundreds of posts where people are degrading one another.   This whole forum should be for helping people.

I spent an hour on the phone this week with apple support.  The support tech told me that my issue should NOT be happening.   I have two phones, both mine!

both up to date with same ios.  Both have iCloud turned off.  The one phone stays at my house all day because I use it for my work number, the other is with me all day.   He told me that I am absolutely correct in saying that recent calls log and missed calls should not be showing up on my phone from the other line.  What I have found is that the phone that is home all the time never gets the "missed call" notification but does have all my recent calls in it's list from the other phone.  My main phone the iPhone 6 now tells me that i've missed calls and they show up on my lock screen and these are calls going to the other phone, sometimes hours after the other phone had received the call.

This never happened before so don't start telling me to stop sharing my ID.   Can one person with one ID not have two phones?   Some of you people defend apple to the death and blame everyone else when this is apple's problem.  I don't' have family sharing turned on either phone.

The tech seemed to think my backups in iCloud are comingled and suggested that I save what I want on my 5s and then wipe it to do a clean install of the IOS.

I don't see how separate backups should be mingled together.    I simply don't want my everyday phone to keep showing me missed calls from my work line that is at home where people call and leave voicemails for my business while I am at work.   That has never happened, there is no excuse for it.  I shouldn't have to just create a separate ID for these two phones when I've had the same ID and same setup for several years with zero issues between these phones.  Something apple has done recently has done this.    No I don't expect an answer from this thread at this point, but I'm also sick of hearing how stupid we are and that we shouldn't be sharing ID's with the whole family.   This isn't my case.   I simply have two phones and don't want a whole separate ID and login for the 5s.   Apple will hopefully fix this soon because their track record is starting to take a dive recently with all the bugs their IOSs have had the last few years.

When the apple tech agrees with me that this should NOT be happening, then they admit there is a glitch.   End of story.

For all you angry posters out there,  get outside and breathe some fresh air!    No reason to put people down on a thread that's supposed to help people.

What do you mean about iCloud being turned off?  iCloud Drive?  Not signed into iCloud at all?

I suspect that you are signed into iCloud on both devices, and it is the "Settings> Phone> Calls on Other Devices> Allow Calls on Other Devices" setting that is doing this, or iCloud Drive as others have posted.

iCloud Drive is turned off on both phones.   As of today I took the 5s phone and turned off all iCloud backups.   Maybe this will help as this is what the tech thought was causing the issue with calls being mingled.    The 6 will still do backups to iCloud.    I'm not sure what the iCloud drive does but whenever it wants me to turn it on when I do an update, I say no.    When you go to settings, iCloud, there is iCloud drive on/off   that is what I was referring to.    I have never clicked on that where it says to upgrade to iCloud drive.

How about the Settings> Phone> Calls on Other Devices> Allow Calls on Other Devices setting?
