Q: My recent calls appearing on another iPhone!?

Hi,

Hopefully you can help.

I use my phone for business and we have noticed in the last few days that all of the calls I make and receive are appearing in my wife's iPhone recent call history?

I have hunted high and low in settings on both phones but with no joy.

It is only affecting calls i make, not the other way round? so i am not seeing calls my wife makes on her phone in my recent call history?

It is also not affecting text messages...

We are both using the same iCloud account but the inconsistencies above suggest its something more involved (or very simple!)

The slightly odd thing is that it only seems to do it when my phone is at home, i went out this afternoon and the calls made/received have not appeared on her history. so maybe its a wifi thing?...but...

I also phoned vodafone when i got home to see if they could help (they couldn't!) and that short dial number is also not appearing on her history?

FYI we share icloud because it allows us to have a synchronized calendar, "find my iphone" and contacts under the same account.

You can easily share calendars across different iCloud accounts (or use Google Calendar.)

You can also share one *secondary* iCloud (or again, Google) for a shared Contact directory.

You can use "Find My Friends" to replicate the shared "Find My iPhone" utility - or just share your login credentials with each other and use Find My iPhone by logging in distinctly.

There is no good reason for multiple people to share one *primary* iCloud account -- and doing so will result in unwanted surprises.

My solution that seems to have worked for me for the issue:

    BOTH phones...

    Settings > Facetime

In the middle, log out of your apple ID (you can still get people to face time you by having your phone number checked).

    That's it.

If it doesn't work, try logging in and then logging back out, and be sure to do so on both of your phones.

FaceTime has its own distinct login, separate from iCloud.  So even if you buck conventional wisdom and share one primary iCloud account, you can still use separate AppleID's for FaceTime (and Messaging.)

Adding more to my own post, now that I've investigated further...

For what it's worth, Family Sharing now ties multiple iCloud accounts into "Find My iPhone" as well.

Are you sharing one primary iCloud account across your and her devices?  If so, use different iCloud accounts instead, the way Apple intended.

If not, have you tried disabling iCloud Drive to see if the problem goes away?

You mean you've tried every hint except for the correct answer... DON'T SHARE AN ID. It's not rocket science.

    To KILTEDTOM!!!

When are you going to get off people's cases and stop giving them wrong information. Stop with the sharing junk.  If people want to share an Apple ID or they have one person and two devices under one APPLE ID, LIKE ME!, they can stop the call lists by simply turning off iCloud DRIVE!!!!

I was told this by senior Apple employees after sending an email to Tim Cook  (He is the Apple CEO in case you do not know it).  Once I turned off the iCloud Drive the call lists have stopped appearing on the other devices  100%.

If they must have the iCloud Drive on, there is currently no other fix.  Apple senior employees told me they are now aware of the issue and will try to get a switch to turn off the call lists in the future.

This constant impatient refrain from you in which you castigate people who for one reason or another prefer to have one Apple ID is not at all helpful.

YOUR problem has NOTHING TO DO with the topic of this thread, as you've been told repeatedly. The way iCloud accounts are supposed to be used is not just apple's opinion of how they should be used.

The fix is NOT to share an ID. You have a different issue. Go start your own thread and quit trying to hijack this one.

LOL, the very fact that the "workaround" (for now, for some) is to turn off iCloud Drive is a very clear indication that Apple did not design primary iCloud accounts to be shared between multiple people.  BECAUSE NOW YOU DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO FILES IN ICLOUD DRIVE.  There's no going back.  Apps that rely on iCloud Drive for syncing won't work for you.

So, you've fashioned a WORKAROUND -- not a real and permanent FIX -- and will continue to hit roadblocks as you use iCloud in a way that it wasn't designed.  Good for you.

The real fix, for folks in situations that have multiple people sharing one primary iCloud account, is to stop doing that, and use different ones instead.  Since you are one person with multiple devices, of course you want to use one iCloud account.  And part of that, syncs call history across devices now.  (I happen to think that feature is pretty cool.  Why you don't want that feature is beyond me, but whatever.)  If and when Apple adds granular control over that feature, you'll have a real fix, for YOUR situation.  But your situation is unique.  Most people here are having a different issue, involving multiple people and their devices.   And disabling iCloud Drive entirely just to workaround that issue... is a terrible solution.  Not only for them, but for you too.  Whether you're willing to admit it or not.

If you think it's a 'bug', then call Apple and complain. You clearly don't want to be bothered with things like 'facts'.

Then tell Apple that you do not like the feature. It is not a bug. You don't have to like the design, but the design is not flawed - that is just how it works. So, tell Apple if you don't like the way it works: Apple - Feedback

This is not a Feature for me .

    Why ?

Befor IOS 8.2 it was no Problem ,then the Problem Appeared to me and some Friends ,but not to all my Friends. So tell me if it is a Feature why does some People have it and some dont ?

If Apple is calling this a Feature then they should give me a Switch.

I Think this is also a Security Isssue for some People.

we tried this (turned off iCloud drive, use separate apple id's, iCloud accounts, etc.) on all four of our devices, and our phone records still cross over to both phones. I went to the genius bar, as well as spent a few hours with Apple Care, trying numerous things, to no avail. at one time, the call did not show up right away, but, about an hour later it was there. I am of the opinion that this is a glitch with the software and Apple has no clue how to rectify it.
