Q: My recent calls appearing on another iPhone!?

Hi,

Hopefully you can help.

I use my phone for business and we have noticed in the last few days that all of the calls I make and receive are appearing in my wife's iPhone recent call history?

I have hunted high and low in settings on both phones but with no joy.

It is only affecting calls i make, not the other way round? so i am not seeing calls my wife makes on her phone in my recent call history?

It is also not affecting text messages...

We are both using the same iCloud account but the inconsistencies above suggest its something more involved (or very simple!)

The slightly odd thing is that it only seems to do it when my phone is at home, i went out this afternoon and the calls made/received have not appeared on her history. so maybe its a wifi thing?...but...

I also phoned vodafone when i got home to see if they could help (they couldn't!) and that short dial number is also not appearing on her history?

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.3

SO I have this problem too and it has to be a bug or they now want us all to have our own iCloud account which never use to be necessary until one of the latest updates.

It has always been necessary, maybe you missed that part.

if it's always been that way then why did it just start happening and you can't turn it off?  This thread will go on forever if people keep going around and around.

I Have two iPhones. Pay for iCloud storage and don't want two different accounts when they are both my phones.  I simply don't want "missed calls" from the other number showing up on my personal iPhone and my call logs mixing.   This isn't something apple planned on and I don't think they know how to fix it.

this whole thread should be closed because the apple people that always defend apple keep saying the same things over and over again.   I don't share accts! I have two phones and there is absolutely no reason this should be happening.  Ive even taken my work iphone off iCloud backups for a month and it still tells me at random times that I've missed calls when it's not even for this phone number.  Along with having the same exact call list.   Stop defending apple!!!!   This shouldn't be happening and they should make it a feature to turn on and off if that's the case.   Different phone numbers should always be kept separate.

Apple screwed something up and some people on here refuse to even think clearly because they swear by Apple til they die.

What about one person with two phones?  I own a business and don't want "missed Calls" from the business line actually showing up on my personal phone!!

It shouldnt be happening!!!   Period.  I get that other info is the same and I'm fine with that but after having this setup for several years with no issues, it's annoying that it just started happening recently.   Apple needs to change it So phone calls and recent calls are kept separate!!!   And for all the people who keep saying its " calls on other devices". It's not that.  Every possible feature is turned off on my work phone and it still happens.

Yes they do!!   One person with two phones should be able to have one ID!!!  And one iCloud storage!   I'm not paying twice for iCloud !  It needs to be able to be turned off!!  If this was another persons phone then I would agree with the "don't share" state meant.  Ive had two iPhones for years! And this never happened.    I am using it correctly.   Man some of you people must have apple tattooed on your foreheads!!!!!!!!!

Hey! My Honda does that, too! Let's start a petition!

    Happy New Year!!!!

And I keep praying on my wife's Honda. Happy New Year and to everyone may all our cars speed up when we gas and slow down when we break!

No, no!  That's a bug.  Honda has got to fix it.

Look, I've been driving for nearly sixty years and never got a speeding ticket but I've been stopped several times the past year.  Clearly Honda changed something.

I agree. I have an iPhone, two iPads, a MacBook Air and a MacBook Pro, and they all share the same Apple ID. Works great. I can work on documents on whichever device is in front of me. My contacts appear on all devices, as does my calendar, reminders, Safari bookmarks, Notes, News settings, Wallet, and Photos. My Recents also show all calls on all devices, but amazingly, if I tap on the "i" it will tell me when a call was made or received on another device. But also amazingly, I know which contacts are business contacts and which are personal contacts, so I don't have a problem with having them all on every device. I actually take advantage of it, and make return calls from one of my computers, regardless of which device they were received on.

Please look at what's happening.  The system is acting as if you are a single entity, one person, one human being, etc.  I assume that that situation is correct.  You want it to act as if you are two separate persons, a "Business Dan" and a "Personal Dan."  In that case, you need separate Apple IDs, one for each of your identities.  No fuss, no problem.

I will add my 2 cents worth in support of Dan's question... because it is a bug.  This past year my wife's iPhone started showing my recent calls on her phone. We have had iPhone's for years and this never happened before.  I have checked face time, etc like described here to no avail.  We share the same Apple ID.  Always have always will.  Again this just started happening within the last year.  So that means its a bug.

Then I realized my wife's phone iOS was not up to date. I am on iOS 9.2.  I updated her iPhone to 9.2. I tried a couple of calls on my phone ... and they no longer are showing up on her phone.  The bug is apparently fixed.

Do as you please.  There is no law that requires you to follow Apple's recommendations.  However, don't be surprised when the condition returns in the future.

This seems to be a clear bug to me that relates to the 'Calls on other devices' setting (Setting > Phone > Calls on other devices). If it's by design, why does there seem to be a setting that controls which devices can allow calls to be received on other devices (when logged into the same Apple ID).

The way I managed to resolve this, is to turn ON 'Allow calls on other devices', then ensure the toggle for each device attached to that Apple ID is turned off. Then go back and turn back off the 'Allow calls on other devices'. Since I've made this change, my wife's and I's calls seem to display correctly. I've tried to run test cases, but the whole setting seems to be flakey, and I get mixed results.

In terms of the argument about only have one ID per person, I support this in theory, but the trade off here is the ability to have one photos library between me and my wife (linked to our one imac). Having seperate photo library's just doesn't make sense for us. If I take a photo, I want it to automatically appear on my wife's phone and my iMac without needing to go in and share one by one. This is how its worked for my wife and I for years, and this is how we want it to work in the future.

And that's how it will work using Family Sharing's shared photo album. See: Family Sharing - Apple Support

BTW, it couldn't have worked that way for years. iCloud photo albums are a new feature in iOS 9. There was a beta of it in iOS 8, but no way to share photos in or out of an Apple ID before that. There was Photo stream, but that didn't require sharing an Apple ID either.
