Q: My recent calls appearing on another iPhone!?

Hi,

Hopefully you can help.

I use my phone for business and we have noticed in the last few days that all of the calls I make and receive are appearing in my wife's iPhone recent call history?

I have hunted high and low in settings on both phones but with no joy.

It is only affecting calls i make, not the other way round? so i am not seeing calls my wife makes on her phone in my recent call history?

It is also not affecting text messages...

We are both using the same iCloud account but the inconsistencies above suggest its something more involved (or very simple!)

The slightly odd thing is that it only seems to do it when my phone is at home, i went out this afternoon and the calls made/received have not appeared on her history. so maybe its a wifi thing?...but...

I also phoned vodafone when i got home to see if they could help (they couldn't!) and that short dial number is also not appearing on her history?

Thanks for letting me know.  What I can tell you is that the merged call lists on shared iCloud accounts is not a feature.  I have 4 devices also sharing the same iCloud account and have no sharing of call lists so there is hope.

Yes, 9.2.1 fixed this bug and our family is happily sharing our appleid again as we have for years despite 53   pages of useless harangues in this thread to do otherwise.

Just post back and let us know when it starts happening again. Please.

Well, it's been working great for me for a while now - so I doubt that this will happen again - at least until the next release.  But you will tell us if the merged call lists stop for you especially with 9.3!

Then you must have disabled some features, since the feature still works in 9.2.1 (forget the Mac, as that would have no impact between seeing call history on my iPad made from my iPhone).  You have either disabled iCloud Drive, and/or Allow Calls on Other Devices.

No feature changed - before 9.2.1, I was running with iCloud turned off on all devices and had the problem.  Nor did Allow Calls on Other Devices change - I never allowed that.  I went over all the settings before and after, and they were identical.  The only difference was 9.2.1.  I'm sorry it's not the answer you're looking for, but it's the truth.

But let us say, for the sake of discussion, that there is a setting.  What setting is this?  Folks here want to know since they've tried all the "solutions/settings" and it isn't working for them.  For me, just upgrading to 9.2.1 solved the problem.  Whether it's a random bit in some data structure that got reset or something else, this points to one thing: bug!  And bugs will get fixed eventually, one hopes.

While the call list merge problem can hide for a day or two, in my experience it always showed up after 48 hours ( due to Apple's cloud infrastructure and syncing.  Once it started, the results were always instantaneous.  So 10 days make me pretty confident that I'm not going to see this again for this release.  Are you disappointed?

Hi Osama - one more thing - are you clearing your call list after installing the release?  While new calls will no longer appear, the old calls that were merged previously remain.  I suspect you are but just thought I'd ask in case...

Unfortunately the issue remains for me.

I have 4 iOS devices (iPhone 6s, iPhone 5s, iPad 2 wifi & iPad Air 2 wifi). All are on the latest iOS. There are all used solely by me and they all share the same Apple ID. I pay extra for additional cloud storage.

I'm not going to get into any discussion of if this is a bug or not as I don't think any of us are in a position to say for certain. All I will say is that this doesn't work as I would expect or would like it to work.

I need access to my iCloud drive on all my devices. I require access to one call log on one phone (work) and access to the other call log on my other phone (personal). However my phones inconsistently show call logs from each other. I've tried all the settings I can think of to try and stop this happening, turning off Handoff, Facetime, Calls on other devices, Messages on multiple devices etc. None of these stop the call history being shared. Obviously I haven't tried turning off iCloud drive as it is essential that I share documents between all my devices.

As I said, I won't comment on whether this is a bug or not but iCloud Drive says it is to "Allow apps to store documents and data in iCloud". Call history, IMO isn't covered in this description. Call history would naturally be covered under Calls on other devices or maybe Handoff. It wouldn't be covered under Facetime as I am seeing call history from non Facetime calls.

When the iPhone was first released it was pretty easy to see what settings covered what functionality. Unfortunately, at least as far as this issue is concerned, that no longer seems to be the case.

So I am confused is there a way to separate call logs if you share the same apple id with your spouse?  My husband HAD his own id.  But couldnt really use our Apply TV system with it since that is on my id.  So when he got a new phone we signed in with my id.  And for the most part I fixed the texting and the callings coming in on both phones, through the settings.  But our contacts merged.  Which I dont mind.  The thing I mind is his calls are on my call history.

I am thinking about going back to Verizon and resetting the phone with his apple id.  (I would need the Verizon Icloud though to copy the pictures.  He doesnt want to loose his pictures which were copied from his old phone.)  I am really thinking we made a mistake by setting his new phone up with my apple id.

Also when I reset his phone,  his contacts from his id should pop up?  Correct?  I see online on the computer when I sign into his id his contacts are still there.    And I guess I can pull the pictures off the phone.

Unfortunately, the only thing that will stop the call logs from appearing on each device is to turn off the iCloud Drive.  After I contacted Tim Cook directly he had one of his senior customer service people call me.  It seems that very few Geniuses or other customer service reps had knowledge of this problem.  That would eliminate this as a feature.  Also, since it is not touted in any Apple materials regarding IOS, that would also eliminate it as a feature.  I was put in touch with another senior person who had heard of the problem, but did not think the top technicians had addressed the problem.  She told me that the best feature would be a switch (she called it a granular fix) to turn it on or off.  Both reps told me it was now on the radar screen.  That's the last I heard of it.  I thought the last upgrade would fix it.  Apparently not.

I may contact Apple again, but I'm not sure of the outcome.

    & others

You guys need to calm down. It is perfectly reasonable and expected to share an Apple ID. I have 3 iPhones with 3 different cell contracts. They are all mine and I want them all on the same ID. I use different accounts for facetime and messenger dependant on the phone but the same base Apple ID. This is the expected sharing scenario. I DO NOT want missed calls on 1 phone showing on the other. This is a new feature I do not want. It is also inconsistent as it works in one direction and not others (sometimes). This a new feature that is a bug. Please address my concern/issue and stop trolling people.

Thank you. At least we know why it is happening.
