Q: My recent calls appearing on another iPhone!?

Hi,

Hopefully you can help.

I use my phone for business and we have noticed in the last few days that all of the calls I make and receive are appearing in my wife's iPhone recent call history?

I have hunted high and low in settings on both phones but with no joy.

It is only affecting calls i make, not the other way round? so i am not seeing calls my wife makes on her phone in my recent call history?

It is also not affecting text messages...

We are both using the same iCloud account but the inconsistencies above suggest its something more involved (or very simple!)

The slightly odd thing is that it only seems to do it when my phone is at home, i went out this afternoon and the calls made/received have not appeared on her history. so maybe its a wifi thing?...but...

I also phoned vodafone when i got home to see if they could help (they couldn't!) and that short dial number is also not appearing on her history?

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.3

it's not iCloud Drive,  this has been discussed before.

I solved the problem!   I bought an Android for my second phone and no worries now!    I got tired of getting missed calls showing up all day on my main phone.

Apple does things sometimes without having on/off switches, this was one of them.   I get the whole sharing of info, contacts, etc, but two phone numbers are two phone numbers for a reason, and there is no real reason they should ever be combined.   I still have my iPhone 6 for my main phone and love it, but for my work cell that I rarely use,  android is just find.   Sorry apple!

For two people who share ID's   just get your own.   I wouldn't share my ID with someone else.  I just had two phones and didn't want to pay twice for iCloud storage.    I'm happy my call logs are separate now.

I guess then My only option is to reset his phone on his id.  Wish I knew about this before we switched his phone to my id.  bummer

You guys need to calm down. It is perfectly reasonable and expected to share an Apple ID.

    By whom?

You guys need to calm down. It is perfectly reasonable and expected to share an Apple ID. I have 3 iPhones with 3 different cell contracts. They are all mine and I want them all on the same ID. I use different accounts for facetime and messenger dependant on the phone but the same base Apple ID. This is the expected sharing scenario.

You're one person.  You're not sharing with others.

I DO NOT want missed calls on 1 phone showing on the other. This is a new feature I do not want. It is also inconsistent as it works in one direction and not others (sometimes). This a new feature that is a bug. Please address my concern/issue and stop trolling people.

Then you have to create two identities. Is that so hard to understand?

    Here

Sign in with your Apple ID on a new device - Apple Support

Your Apple ID is the account you use to access all Apple services—and you only need one to sign in everywhere. If you use Apple services like the iTunes & App Stores, Apple Music, iCloud, iMessage, and FaceTime, then you already have an Apple ID and don't need to create a new one.

    And this

We recommend that you use the same Apple ID for all Apple services on your device—including the iTunes & App Stores and iCloud. Using multiple Apple IDs might be confusing and cause issues with accessing purchased content or using some services. If you have multiple Apple IDs, you can’t merge them.

you are so obviously trolling or maybe a bit slow.

So, according to you, I am not allowed to use iCloud and AppleID the way it is designed?

This is simply an acknowledged Bug / unintended consequence of a new feature where apple have added the caller list to iCloud and not given the option to not synchronise it. They will fix this by offering an option as it is not as intended.

You sidestepped the problem, not solved it.

    >> Apple does things sometimes without having on/off switches, this was one of them.

Nope, this doesn't explain why some folks don't have the problem and others do with the same settings, unless the internal unsettable flag is a random value for different users... Before 9.2.1, I had iCloud drive turned off and had the problem.  With 9.2.1, I don't have the problem with the iCloud drive turned off along with other settings unchanged.  So this is clearly a bug where identical inputs give opposite results.  I was hoping that 9.2.1 solved the problem for everyone but apparently not.  For those still affected, 9.3 is around the corner...

Nothing like making up stuff - where has Apple every advocated that a single user needs to create separate identities for each device?

What the idea that an individual with multiple devices uses the same ID on each device? I really do not have to support this idea. This is the intended use of iCloud sharing etc. If you do not believe this is the case you need to post a link.

Apple recommend that we use the same ID for multiple devices that we own. It's not unreasonable to expect that call history isn't shared if we don't want it to be.

I would guess that some folk are not syncing their iCloud Drive on all devices and some are. Or maybe some are only seeing this when they are on syncing which may only be when they are on WiFi so it seems inconsistent.
